In the Boyfriend Bid nosotros see our two main characters, Sarah and Take a chance. Chance is the school's new guy and Sarah starts off pretty closed off to him. At outset Sarah was a flake off-putting to me because she was and then, soo guarded, but watching Risk knock downwardly her walls one brick at a time was super rewarding. Sarah certainly won me over, and Chance had a fan in me from the beginning. Sarah was burned by a soccer thespian in the past, so she wants nothing to do with Take a chance. Her friends put in a winning bid on him at a charity sale for school and their forced dating is off. I loved the idea of charity auction. I even liked the idea of how the dates got upped from one to half dozen, just the whole student news story aspect of post-obit them around and recording their dates really irritated me. It was a complete invasion of their privacy and I was actually surprised that not only the both of them went along with it, just that the school overall was ok with information technology. I wouldn't accept been ok with information technology and I never would have agreed to information technology. The school basically had a charity auction, took Sarah's friends $300 dollars and then totally changed the rules of the game after the fact. Merely that was honestly my only gripe with the story.
I loved the romance. I loved watching Sarah and Chance connect and slowly go to know one another. Nix almost their actual relationship felt forced (other than the fake news story dating nonsense.) or rushed. And I have to say this, both Sarah and Chance were great immature adult characters. I really adored them, separately and together. If you are looking for a fake relationship turned real type of story that has a different have on the concept, then I would cheque out The Boyfriend Bid. I think it will hit the spot for a sugariness immature adult high school romance.

The description of this volume sounded similar something I would similar, just there were other elements of the story that bothered me so much I only couldn't become past them to relish it more. I started venting in my Notes app while I read, then I'll probably share some of those thoughts in a flake.
Chance and Sarah were fine characters--both likable high school seniors. Their friends and family unit were all right, too, though they really weren't fleshed out much. Many times throughout the book, I'd wonder, "And what do your parents call up of this?" Considering let's be honest: If you accept to become on up to 12 dates over the next six weeks, your parents are going to know about it, especially if you've got such a busy schedule to begin with. Instead, both Risk's parents and Sarah's mom were but on the page occasionally at convenient times and without much substance.
Some of my more nit-picky complaints:
- Sarah digs her fingers into her waist os. Yep, "waist bone"--because there is such a thing. Let's look at the man skeleton for a moment . . . Become ahead, await up a picture. Hm. In that location are ribs, and below that there's a gap until you become to the hips. The 2 are connected by the spine. Your waist does non equal your hips. Your waist is the narrowest part of you, typically between your hips and your ribs and somewhere effectually your bellybutton.
- Chance remembers his brother existence in a metal hospital bed. From the way he described it, what came to listen were those super former ones y'all see in pictures of like the mid-20th century. I've stayed in hospitals a few times over the last decade or and so (iv babies, as well every bit another procedures), in three different states. Not a single hospital bed was metal. Only sayin'.
Now let'due south get down to some of the things that really bothered me, shall we?
Changing the auction item from one engagement with Run a risk to six weeks with up to two dates per calendar week and having it be auctioned off for $300 per entry? What in the what? I cannot willingly suspend enough disbelief to take that any high school administration would advise that as a good idea for their educatee body. i) Sure, information technology'southward for a good cause, but do they really think that's a proficient mode to encourage their female students to spend their money? two) Request a student, on the spot, to donate that much of his time, is a ridiculous expectation.
I hated Erica & her crew. Were at that place any more selfish, ridiculous people in the history of this book? No, there were not. I cannot believe anyone idea it was a skilful idea for Chase and Sarah to exist followed around by a photographer and a sound guy and have to wearable mics on every engagement. Not but is it an invasion of their personal space, just it would evidently interfere with whatever genuine conversation or possible human relationship that Erica hoped would develop for her stupid web log. No matter how much she repeatedly claimed it was all for the proficient of the fundraiser, it was manifestly all for the benefit of her website and college admissions project. I hated her. Moreover, the fact that Chance and Sarah went along with it all irked me. Neither of them felt comfy with the intrusion at any signal during the whole thing, and really, they weren't under any obligation to go through with it. Why did neither of them say no?
Where on earth did the impromptu let-me-remove-your-sweater-and-requite-you-a-neck-and-shoulder-massage thing come from while they were volunteering at Habitat? That was simply all kinds of weird.
On the subject of Habitat, Erica'south crew ones again ruined the day. Aye, Sarah didn't quite use her brain when she agreed to let Hannah come up to the site, but what followed was quite messed up. And the fact that it never really came up again (except briefly when Chance was talking to Rick) really bothered me.
Oh, back to Erica & Co. I tin't believe she actually called a coming together to hash out the "lack of heart and romance" being displayed for her BLOG. Since when was that a requirement? The fact that she and her cronies ganged up on Chance and Sarah, calling their dates boring, made me want to slap them all upside the head. Have I mentioned I hated them? Demanding Chance and Sarah allow them to tag along every time they interact, whether information technology be in a eating house or in a car, was only plainly awful and intrusive. Again, why on earth didn't Hazard or Sarah ever say no?
Speaking of which, why was Chance such an idiot at the restaurant? He could easily have said, "We're leaving in our separate cars" and then used this thing he has called a Telephone to call or text her as before long as they got in their cars. Only I suppose that wouldn't have perpetuated the Big Misunderstanding.
Let's consider in the existent earth what a librarian's response to, "Can I delight have a picnic in the Rare Books room?" would be? If you recall the answer would be "Yes," you are out of your mind.
Last big of my Annotation rants: Information technology wasn't my understanding that Chance was some super rich child. Then how on globe did he afford all the stuff at the end? (view spoiler)[A limo, white lights lining the path in the park (are they all battery operated?), and 300 daisies. (hide spoiler)]
And then while the idea behind this book was interesting and could take produced something cute and enjoyable to read, its potential was greatly overshadowed by all of the elements that required vast quantities of the willing pause of atheism. Equally a event, the unabridged book felt contrived and what I'm going to phone call "author guided"--the characters weren't immune to act on their own considering the author led all of their decisions like a puppeteer.
How it ends: (view spoiler)[After the eating place engagement, Sarah gets very deplorable considering she cannot believe Risk actually likes her. (By the manner, Take chances should not have kissed her when Erica'south minions hissed at him to do and so from across the restaurant. I idea he wanted Sarah to see his feelings for her as real. That was non the way to do it.) They go through with another date (the library one), which seems to exist going well, and so Sarah pulls away. She eventually goes to Erica and quits the whole thing. Chance goes to Erica to quit because he wants to appointment Sarah for real, but when he talks to Sarah about it, she is really mopey and doesn't give him any signal that she has feelings for him. These two, I swear. Idiots. Chance calls Erica and writes an post for her blog and an article for the schoolhouse newspaper, talking virtually how he fell for Sarah. He waits after school for her at Megan's motorcar, kisses her, and then shows her the article. They go to the Jump Formal together, and he plans this elaborate (and obviously expensive) gesture for her beforehand (see spoiler several paragraphs upwardly). They're in love. Yippee. (hide spoiler)]
Notation: Some swearing. A lot of really unbelievable elements that ruined the story for me.

This was an enjoyable Immature Adult read.. Sarah's friends puddle their funds to bid on a date with the popular new soccer star at their loftier school, Gamble Dupont.. Sarah, who is of half Italian and African American ancestry, recently bankrupt upwards with her long time boyfriend after she defenseless him cheating. Sarah decides to concentrate on her grades, and then she can qualify for a scholarship for higher and is upset when her friends determine she needs to chill out and commencement dating again. They determine to enter Sarah as a applicant in a charitable event sponsored by the soccer squad: Sarah's friends postal service a bid for her to win a date with the most pop boy in the school.
When there is a behest state of war, the local media and school paper make up one's mind to publicize the consequence in order to enhance more funds for the local infirmary, and Sarah and Hazard's six dates are photographed and reported - a sort of reality tv program, merely in impress. Hazard and Sarah reluctantly agree: it is for a skilful cause, afterward all.
As each date progresses, Risk and Sarah start to develop real feelings for i another, but information technology becomes hard to distinguish betwixt what is being said and washed for the camera and bodily reality. This was a little dissimilar from the usual boy meets girl YA fare.
I felt there were a few issues that hadn't been dealt with in the end -Take a chance'due south hard relationship with his father and Sarah'due south scholarship bug, simply the focus of the story was on two characters who had no time for love, suddenly finding that love was making time for them. I rate this a 3.75 out of five. An enjoyable read.

Outset of all, the whole "bid situation" plot point was then beyond flimsy, I couldn't take anything that followed seriously. The state of affairs was hastily explained abroad due west
I've found myself to be loyal to entangled teen publishing for a story I tin read inside 1-3 days without fifty-fifty reading the synopsis, but because what kind of books these are, it's fair to expect that every one time in a while you'll discover a massive flop. Honestly, I kinda like finding those so I tin can write a scathing review haha. Thus:First of all, the whole "bid situation" plot betoken was so beyond flimsy, I couldn't accept anything that followed seriously. The situation was hastily explained abroad with absolutely zero logic or bodily reasoning. They stopped the bidding at $300 – when information technology likely would have continued to get higher – in order to "brand more money" for St. Jude, while giving away more than than the original offer. That sounds off-white and makes a lot of professional sense....
'Here, people are obviously crazy about these new paintings I've put upwards on eBay, permit me finish the bidding, stick with the highest bid and so far and give them even more than paintings for that price'… what?
And then it wasn't even 6 dates, it was 12 dates - 2 a week - which is beyond excessive and extremely unrealistic for a school and charity to exercise for 2 minors.
The writer threw every single cliché line and scenario known to romance with absolutely no originality or flair to make it her ain. Forth with poorly written banter and lack-luster rapport.
And and then Sarah – absolutely the worst – is such a dick to him right off the bat, and is so like, 'he patently doesn't like me, he hasn't done anything and I've been dropping SOOOOO many hints', when she'southward done the absolute minimum: sent him a polite text, at best, and started grinning at him more? I'm to assume. Meanwhile, he's been touching her so much: holding her hand, reading to her while physically moving her head to his chest, carrying her away when she'due south injured, staring at her with longing for longer than acceptable, and tucking wisps of her hair behind her ear. Saying things like "It was hopeless." because he didn't enquire her to dance with him of his ain volition, an old man had to tell him to – wow, what a telling sentiment against him.
Then there's his inner monologue. Gahhhhh. Sickeningly smitten wayyy besides soon. And then he has the audacity to act surprised when he realizes he likes her…. um, your similar'southward been showing for quite some time bud, therefore, basically the worst of both worlds.
Also, everyone's on crack. How on earth would a camera man and a mic capturing everything y'all're saying and doing on a date ever seem like a good idea? How would that ever happen, ever? Why would they say yes to that? Oh! What exercise we do when a plot point doesn't actually brand sense, throw information technology right nether that flimsy guise of being for sick kids; how does your "operation romance" affect the charity at all? It doesn't. Neither did the original bidding situation. They could take gotten more than than $300, for a essentially smaller investment.
Overall, a dnf right out the gate.

The characters are well put together with back stories that help to sympathize their potential growt
The concept of this book was cute; role reversal on dating bids, but at a high school level for cancer awareness. The plot is a-typical. Sarah is hurt and burdened by an erstwhile boyfriend and Chase is as well similar at first for her to dissever them. Romance that was never supposed to be romance and a couple who is hiding their feelings from each other in a mode that may harm their future relationship. The characters are well put together with dorsum stories that help to empathize their potential growth. I feel like in that location were points fabricated most Chase's brother Alex and his father that never really turned into anything or went into further detail. Maybe that isn't an important function to their love story, simply it important to Chase'due south character and why he does the auction to begin with. I just felt like that was missing from the story and needed to exist at that place. There was a function with Chase and Doug (Sarah'southward ex) that I didn't understand. Either information technology was meant to mean something and elaborated on/fabricated into something more or information technology shouldn't have been there. Without giving away spoilers, I would accept liked to see that go somewhere.
Overall, the story was good. It was a sweet high school romance story that was a quick read. If you can get by a few missing pieces, or (to me what seemed like) unfinished story lath thought processes, and so it is well worth the read.

That being the case, I have some issues. St Jude's is featured heavily throughout the book, but the connection to cancer is only mentioned once. Chase'southward brother Alex and the leukemia gets a single mention in chapter half dozen and doesn't come up again. Huge missed opportunity! And this volume certainly did the job for me.
Overall:
This is a light, fluffy story about Sarah, your classic female person heroine who's still trying to get over a breakup, and Chance du Pont (whose name sounds perfect for the kind of egotistical, all round non peachy person that Sarah takes him for at starting time. Then of course, when they become stuck together by Sarah'south friends through a charity engagement sale, for not 1, non ii, but half-dozen dates, it is safe to say that a lot of "moments", both uncomfortable and cute, ensue.
Characters:
Sarah was likeable enough for a heroine, and she had clearly faced a certain amount of 'trauma' shall we say, after her final relationship with her ex(who happens to be part of Chance's team), only I couldn't help but feel a flake...I don't know...annoyed at her at times. In the outset of the novel, although I completely understand why, she acted in a fairly rude manner towards Chance, despite not knowing annihilation about him. Just, fear not, she does improve significantly throughout the story and it'due south actually quite enjoyable seeing her grow.
Chance, on the other mitt, I always felt was likeable and he simply seemed like the kind of guy that exists in every YA novel - sweet, expert looking, popular only not stuck upward, etc, etc. Only I was/am totally okay with that.
Storyline:
Again, this is an Entangled Trounce novel, so no one is exactly coming in here expecting twists and turns and deviations from the script, so to speak, just Andrefski still manages to pull off a fairly enjoyable character journey and storyline - it was certainly enough that it made you want to continue reading and not put the volume down.

That was when I noticed I had this ARC waiting for me and I establish it to be the perfect opportunity to dive into it! While I will say it was not the most well written novel with fleshed out characters, it was definitely a beautiful read! Sarah Campbell – Equally a main female atomic number 82, I think Sarah was adept character to follow due her intelligence, passion and kindness. I really wished we got to see more of her dreams and aspirations since it could take created a more dynamic and intense layer to her personality.
Run a risk DuPoint – Chance is a ambrosial. I have no other words. Yep, he is immediately misunderstood by Sarah due to his popularity and position in the Schoolhouse'd Soccer squad but he really does show a caring side to him which you cannot assistance merely adore.
I guess my main criticism of this novel would be the plot and that information technology hangs on a cord of disbelief. The story line itself was a bit strange since I practice not recollect the loftier school administration would allow an event like this to happen only maybe I am but being nit-picky. In addition, I practice think the author'south technique of writing resembled more than of simply telling what happens instead of showing and letting the reader infer the plot details. There were moments of flashbacks and I think these were key moments that could have been developed even more to requite a deeper connection to the characters. Overall, I think there could have been potential for this novel if the plot was more than gripping and the characters had more layers to their personality.
Otherwise I idea the developing romance was very beautiful. And my main daughter, loves to read. What's not to love? And there were a couple of library scenes which was an adorable affect. So Sweet! Ane of my favorite aspects of whatever novels are those which comprise strong female friendships and I was so happy to come across a strong and supportive sisterhood throughout this book!
If you are looking for a quick and cute summer/spring read, then definitely try it out!

The characters weren't very fleshed out and the romance moved in a weird pace. It seemed insta-lovey and then, possibly in an attempt to make it wait not equally such, they decided that they didn't want a relationship.
It was a volume that was, in my opinion, merely fine. If y'all'd like a quick and sweet read, go ahead!
This was a fun and quick read, but I tin can't say that information technology impressed me much. I think that the aforementioned scenario would honestly work better in an adult book. The characters weren't very fleshed out and the romance moved in a weird pace.
